    TMS \u2013 THE FULLY INTEGRATED TRANSPORT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR THE FORWARDING INDUSTRY<\/h2>\n

    SCHMIDT handles more than 1000 transport orders every day. Plus further storage orders as well as customer-specific special orders. Our own state-of-the-art forwarding software supports all users from various areas interlinked.<\/p>\n

    SCHMIDT use their state-of-the art \u201dTMS\u201d software (Transport Management System). TMS is a fully integrated software package operating with client servers, covering all freight and transport handling activities from preparing quotations, order processing, dispatch to billing to customers and subcontractors.<\/p>\n

    TMS was developed in close cooperation with dsb IT services GmbH being also partner for the ongoing planning and implementation of further development. Indeed, being fairly unusual in the logistics industry, the successful and intensive team-work has been going on for more than 40 years.<\/p>\n

    THE ADVANTAGE<\/h2>\n

    More than 250 users at locations in the SCHMIDT network are linked online to the mainframe servers by VPN (Virtual Private Network). This provides an instant and even level of information to every user anywhere in Europe. In particular, exact transport information, supported by a fully integrated satellite communication tool, can be provided to every user at any time. This is supported by having completely integrated telematics applications into the TMS system.<\/div>\n

    More than 2\/3 of our transport orders are transferred via EDI resp. XML directly from the customers\u2019 ERP systems into the SCHMIDT EDP forwarding software. First, the data have to be transformed into a uniform and standard format (EDIFACT resp. XML). In addition to an optimized transfer of transport orders, EDIFACT\/XML is being increasingly used for actual status reporting.<\/p>\n

    Currently, the SCHMIDT Group operates EDI connections with 35 customers using the data formats IFTMIN, IFCSUM, IFTSTA and CIDX.<\/p>\n

    Electronic data transfers offer a number of benefits:<\/strong>

    – reduction of time-consuming phone calls
    – reduction of manual data inputs
    – error reduction after phone communication and new data entry
    – increased communication speed
    – improved customer service<\/p>\n

    Communication with the major part of SCHMIDT corporate vehicles is handled via the Astrata telematics system. Astrata communication and tracking tools are directly integrated into the SCHMIDT TMS forwarding software.<\/p>\n

    This option provides the following major benefits:<\/strong>
    – Availability of precise and continuously updated transport information from vehicles, i.e. about the goods
    – Simplification and automation of routine dispatch processes
    – Error reduction by automatic 1:1 data transfers
    – Reduction of time-consuming and expensive telephone calls thus reducing communication costs
    – Increased transparency
    – Supervision of driving and break periods (vehicles with digital tachograph only)
    – Analysis of vehicle performance data<\/p>\n

    By applying this solution, the SCHMIDT group was able to achieve another major service quality improvement that benefits both customers and the whole SCHMIDT network.<\/p>\n

    With a specially established database, subcontractors of the SCHMIDT group are granted access to call up order details and positioning data of their vehicles via internet.<\/p>\n

      DAS VOLLINTEGRIERTE SPEDITIONSSYSTEM TMS<\/h2>

      Die SCHMIDT-Gruppe wickelt t\u00e4glich \u00fcber 1.000 Transportauftr\u00e4ge ab. Dazu kommen Lagerauftr\u00e4ge sowie kundenspezifische Spezialauftr\u00e4ge. Eine eigene, hochmoderne Speditionssoftware unterst\u00fctzt dabei die Anwender aus den verschiedenen beteiligten Bereichen.<\/p>

      Die SCHMIDT-Gruppe setzt das Transport-Management-System (TMS) ein. Dabei handelt es sich um eine vollintegrierte Client-Server-Software, die von der Offertenerstellung \u00fcber Auftragserfassung und Disposition, bis hin zur Abrechnung gegen\u00fcber Kunden und Subunternehmern s\u00e4mtliche Prozesse der Speditions- und Transportabwicklung umfasst.<\/p>

      Entwickelt wurde das TMS in enger Zusammenarbeit mit der Firma dsb IT Services GmbH, mit der auch die laufenden Weiterentwicklungen projektiert und umgesetzt werden. Die \u00fcber 40 Jahre andauernde intensive und erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit ist in diesem Wirtschaftszweig au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnlich.<\/p>

      DER VORTEIL<\/h2>

      <\/p>

      Mittels VPN greifen \u00fcber 250 Anwender in den SCHMIDT-Logistikzentren online auf die zentralen Server zu. Dadurch verf\u00fcgt jeder Anwender in ganz Europa \u00fcber den gleichen Informationsstand. Insbesondere \u00fcber den Status der f\u00fcr Kunden durchgef\u00fchrten Transporte sind alle Anwender jederzeit auskunftsf\u00e4hig. Dazu dient auch die vollst\u00e4ndige Integration der Telematikanwendungen in das TMS.<\/p>

      \u00dcber zwei Drittel der Transportauftr\u00e4ge werden inzwischen per EDI bzw. XML direkt aus den ERP-Systemen der Auftraggeber in das EDV-Speditionsprogramm der SCHMIDT-Gruppe \u00fcbertragen. Zuvor m\u00fcssen die Daten in ein einheitliches, standardisiertes Format (EDIFACT bzw. XML) gebracht werden. EDIFACT\/XML wird neben einer optimierten Auftrags\u00fcbermittlung in zunehmendem Ma\u00dfe auch f\u00fcr zeitnahe Statusr\u00fcckmeldungen und Tracing-Anwendungen eingesetzt.<\/p>

      Zur Zeit bestehen zu 35 Kunden Anbindungen in den Formaten IFTMIN, IFCSUM, IFTSTA und CIDX.<\/p>

      Der elektronische Datenaustausch bietet den Anwendern eine Reihe von Vorteilen:<\/strong>
      - Verringerung der Papierflut
      - Reduzierung von zeitaufwendigen Telefonaten
      - Reduzierung von manuellen Dateneingaben
      - Reduzierung von Fehlern bei fernm\u00fcndlicher \u00dcbermittlung und erneuter Datenerfassung
      - Erh\u00f6hung der Kommunikationsgeschwindigkeit
      - Verbesserung des Kundenservice<\/p>

      Die Kommunikation mit den meisten Fahrzeugen der SCHMIDT-Gruppe erfolgt \u00fcber das Telematiksystem von Astrata, welches im Speditionsprogramm TMS integriert ist.<\/p>

      Diese L\u00f6sung bietet folgende wesentliche Vorteile:<\/strong>
      - Pr\u00e4zise und st\u00e4ndig aktualisierte Informationen von den Fahrzeugen und somit den Transportg\u00fctern
      - Vereinfachung und Automatisierung von Routineabl\u00e4ufen in der Disposition
      - Reduzierung von Fehlerquellen durch 1:1 \u00dcbernahme der Daten
      - Reduzierung von zeitaufwendigen Telefongespr\u00e4chen und Senkung der Kommunikationskosten
      - Steigerung der Transparenz
      - \u00dcberwachung von Lenk- und Ruhezeiten bei Fahrzeugen mit digitalem Tachographen
      - Auswertung von Leistungsdaten der Fahrzeuge<\/p>

      Mit der Umsetzung dieser Technik hat die SCHMIDT-Gruppe eine weitere Qualit\u00e4tsverbesserung ihrer Leistungen erreicht, wovon Auftraggeber und das gesamte SCHMIDT-System profitieren.<\/p>

      Subunternehmer der SCHMIDT-Gruppe haben \u00fcber eine eigens daf\u00fcr eingerichtete Datenbank die M\u00f6glichkeit, Auftr\u00e4ge und Ortungsmeldungen ihrer Fahrzeuge hier mitzuverfolgen.<\/p>
